Soft Tissue Laser Dentistry

Lasers have been used in medicine and dentistry for many years.  FDA has approved the use of lasers for many dental procedures.

A laser is a device that uses light energy to perform work.  Lasers are unique because they can treat targeted tissue while leaving surrounding tissue unaffected.EPSON MFP image

Lasers can be used for many soft tissue procedures.  These procedures include:

  • Reshaping or removing gum tissue
  • Clipping muscle attachments (Frenectomy)
  • Removing soft tissue growths (Fibroma removals, Hemangioma removals)
  • Gently removing swollen tissues

How lasers are used in our office:

We use a Waterlase for a number of procedures:

  • A gentle alternative to the drill, the water-cutting instrument utilizes laser-energized spray to remove enamel, dentin, and decayed tooth material
  • The energy from the laser can numb the tooth requiring little to no anesthetic use for some fillings
  • Used to kill viruses and bacteria which helps heal cold sores, canker sores and wounds in general
  • Used in our gum disease treatment to removed infected tissue without the use of anesthetic

Our diode laser is used to:

  • Remove infected tissue in gum disease treatment
  • Heal lesions
  • Decontaminate the tissue around the teeth as a means to eliminate the transfer of bacteria from one area to another within the mouth
  • Heal wounds and sore joints
  • Relieve pain from TMJ problems
